FACT:
Every year over 800 children under the age of fourteen die in house fires and thousands more are injured. The WYZ KIT is designed to drastically reduce those numbers.
INVENTOR:
Captain Jim Wyzomirski is the designer and creator of the WYZ KIT and the Fire Survival For Children Program. He has been a professional firefighter for over twenty years. During that time he witnessed several children needlessly die in house fires. After a devastating fire in June of 2007, where five children perished, Captain “Wyz” began to not just question why these tragedies occurred, but what could he do to prevent them from happening in the future.
After countless hours of research, he came up with an innovative idea. Combine traditional fire safety programs with actual fire survival techniques used by firefighters. Teach the kids some basic fire behavior knowledge, show them the skills needed to escape a fire, and provide them with a few valuable tools to assist them in getting out safely.
The WYZ KIT:
The WYZ KIT is designed for children ages five to twelve, although older children and even adults can benefit from the information inside. It contains several practical items that can be extremely important in an emergency situation. They are all kid friendly, but everything should be reviewed together with an adult.
Items Inside:
A DVD instructional video that contains a comprehensive array of information about fire prevention, fire safety, fire behavior, smoke detectors, exit drills in the home, how to get out of a fire safely, and how to use all the items in the WYZ KIT. There are realistic demonstrations by children of what to do in a fire. The video should be watched regularly to reinforce the lesson learned.

Smoke Detector:
The smoke detector is specifically for the child’s room and should be installed after viewing the video.
Flashlight:
A small LED flashlight can be used to find your way in the dark or to signal for help from a window.
Whistle:
A whistle can be used to alert the rest of the family there is a fire, or can also be used to help firefighters locate a lost or disoriented child.
Flag:
A signal flag can be waved out the window to help someone see where you are and that you need help.
Wooden Mallet:
A mallet, which should be used only as a last resort, and only if you cannot escape your room, and cannot open your window. It can be used to break a window to get fresh air or to alert rescuers where you are. The video shows the safest way to break a window.
The WYZ KIT is designed to be kept in a very visible and accessible place in the child’s room. Either under the window or hanging on the back of the door is okay as long as the child knows where it is at all times.
We urge parents or guardians to take the time to go over the survival kit with your child at least once a month and make sure the batteries are good in the smoke detector and flashlight.
THE WYZ KIT IS NOT A TOY AND SHOULD ONLY BE USED IN AN EMERGENCY
WARNING: In order to reduce the risk of serious injury or death, use only as directed in the enclosed instructional DVD.
